If you’re going to make today great, start with breakfast!
At the beginning of my separation I didn’t have two penny’s to rub together. In fact I actually quit smoking because it came down to feeding my habit or my kids. My kids won and it’s been 2.5 years since I’ve had one. I was left with a drained savings and checking account, $3000 in bills and no job. I was a stay-at-home mom for the 5 years prior, only bar tending here and there to pick up the slack as needed. What I did have, was an apartment that was paid until the the end of the month. So I got a job immediately, and started paying bills. When I started on this journey I was determined that I was not going to give up. I was going to do whatever it took to create a comfortable life for my girls. I was going to build my credit, have a substantial savings and someday buy a house.
A few months in, I was in need of some pampering. At this time Victoria’s Secret was having their Semi-Annual sale where if you buy 6 lotions or mists for $35 you get the 7th one free. I love their lotions so I talked myself into it. (It’s
Okay necessary to pamper yourself every once in a while.) While I was checking out, the clerk said that if I applied for a credit card that she would give me 15% of my total purchase. I chuckled and said there was no way I would qualify. (Not too long ago my credit was in the 400’s and I had few credit accounts go to collections 7 years prior.) She said that she would still give me the 15% even if I was denied. Now I LOVE a good deal. And 15% sounded pretty good for 10 extra minuets of my time, plus it had been years since I had my credit pulled so I went for it. Immediately it came back approved! I was elated. I had been approved for credit, and it was a card I knew I could have self control with. I charged my purchase to my new Angel card and went home and paid it off as soon as it was all set up on their end. I was determined that this time around I was going to build my credit.
A few months after that I decided that if I was serious about building my credit that I needed a card I would use regularly. So I walked into my bank and applied for a card with them, and wouldn’t you know it, they approved me too! Now for the last 1.5 years I have diligently paid this card off ahead of time, every single month; as well as have not had any late payment on my bills, even when I took over our $450 car payments right at the beginning of all of this. (Totally God.)
Since building my credit is necessary to buying my house someday. It has been my financial focus. So today, I called and asked for a credit increase and…..I was approved for a 600% increase! I am one step closer to my goal of buying a house!! God has faithfully taken care of us, and has blessed us in so many ways through all of it.
Don’t ever give up on your dreams, no matter how bleak your situation feels, keep fighting, keep pushing through, and remain faithful. My God is able, and man is he good!
I just knew starting my day with a Bacon, Gouda Breakfast Sandwich, and a Pumpkin Spice Latte (Yep, I caved on the no caffeine thing.) was the making of a great day!
